Iceland nominated restaurants 2009
The nominated restaurants are elected by magazine Gestgjafinn, Kjartan Ólafsson & Úlfar Finnbjörnsson.
1. Dill
2. Fridrik V
3. The Grill (Hotel Saga)
4. The Gallery (Hotel Holt)
5. Orange
6. Vox (Hilton Hotel)
A few hints about them:
Dill
a new Nordic restaurant located in the Nordic House in Reykjavík! DILL is the mindful creation of Chef Gunnar Karl Gíslason and Sommelier Ólafur Örn Ólafsson, pioneers of the New Nordic Kitchen in Iceland. Dill is much more than a restaurant. It is the result of a dream Gunnar Karl and Ólafur have shared for a while about a small restaurant with personality.
A restaurant where guests not only eat well, but where the meal becomes an experience in itself and classic Nordic ingredients are prepared in a modern way.
The Grill
The restaurant at the top of Radisson SAS Hotel Saga is the most renowned and beloved in its category in Iceland. For more than four decades the pleasant ambience of “The Grill”, on the 8th floor, has indulged visitors, caressed their taste buds and put them, literally, to a higher ground. Delicate courses, vintage wines, diverse menus and elegant service are the hallmark.. Multi-awarded cooks, unified servants, skilled sommeliers and disciplined management has made The Grill into a world class restaurant.
The Gallery
at Hotel Holt is serving French-inspired cuisine, including the presentation of an extensive wine list.
Orange, Reykjavik
A restaurant with an experimental dining experience combining the freshest Icelandic ingredients with liquid nitrogen, helium and other element created by former 2005 Icelandic Chef of the Year, Þórarinn
Eggertsson and his assistants in the ‘Orange Lab’. Topping the chef’s recommendations is the “Let’s Go Crazy” experimental five-course taster menu. Desserts include “futuristic ice cream”.
Vox
Restaurant at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica vows to keep the path from nature to plate as short as possible, nurturing a direct contact with hunters and fishermen, farmers and experts on spices and berries in the highlands. The result is a cosmopolitan /Icelandic / Scandinavian cuisine with national roots, served by expert staff in cool, comfortable surroundings.
Fridrik V
Akureyri's gourmet hub, the Friðrik V is a formal kind of place with a hushed respect for the master chefs at work. The menu features Icelandic delicacies such as lobster tails, fresh seafood and lamb.
